Parents, educators, and combinations thereof: welcome to Around the Thicket. This is a forested little corner of the internet where you can:
- explore how kids learn and grow
- gain skills to help your kids reach all of their potential (physically, cognitively, emotionally)
- develop strong family relationships
- nurture a love for the outdoors in your children and yourself
I’m Amy. I believe that kids should take risks, that learning can be supported at home as well as it can at school, that parenting should be respectful, and the great outdoors is paramount to all of the above. My goal for my kids is that they grow to be curious, thoughtful, self-motivated problem solvers, who can teach themselves anything they want to know. If you have a similar vision for your kids, you’re in the right place.
I’m a wife, a mom of two boys, and an American ex-pat living in the north-west of the UK. I sort-of accidentally got an MA in education a while back, and since then I have been a self-certified education enthusiast. You might argue that it is impossible to unintentionally get a masters, but believe me, I really stumbled into it. Since then, I’ve had a few jobs before settling into stay-at-home motherhood – something that is likely to last since we will be home educating our kids. Around the Thicket is where I share the practical working-out of my parenting and education philosophies.
I would love to hear from you – you can always email me at amy (at) aroundthethicket (dot) com.
