Reading Slumps

I mentioned that I barely read anything over my family vacation last week. It’s too easy to fall away from a good habit – reading before bed, reading in spare time, etc – and the reading rut followed me home.

I can only justify reading so many detective novels, as good as they are at getting one out of a slump. (In fact, the only book I really read last week was Agatha Christies’s Sleeping Murder). So I’ve turned to another tactic I developed earlier this year: picking a book from the Ambleside Online Year Four curriculum.

This has many advantages. I need the book anyway for next school year, and I likely already have it. If I plan to set my son loose with it to read on his own, I want to have read it beforehand. And the AO curriculum is just plain good.
